May was full of everything we love about Lake Norman life—exploring, relaxing, painting, sipping, boating... and yep, even our first snake sighting. Here’s how we spent the month:

Explored Charlotte: We headed into the "big city" to check out The Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward, a unique self-guided tour that showcases hidden courtyards, private gardens, and outdoor spaces in Uptown Charlotte--plus cocktails! Sadly, it was sold out by the time we arrived (rookie move), but we fully recovered with an incredible lunch and cocktails at Sea Level. We give it a "5-star" and loved the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and East Coast Shrimp Po' Boy (and bartender made awesome Bees Knees)!

Sneaky Snake: First snake sighting of the season! We spotted one of our slithery friends this month (a non-venomous local, thankfully). In North Carolina, common snakes like black rat snakes and garters are harmless and helpful--but always give them space and watch where you step, especially near the water and with your furry little pets. Fun Fact: North Carolina is home to a diverse snake population, with around 37 different species, only 6 of which are venomous.
From bubbly to coffee: We kicked off boating season on Lake Norman with a glass of bubbly in our favorite secret spot (aka Champagne Cove) one warm afternoon. A few days later, the lake gave us a whole different vibe--calm, glowing, and perfect for a quiet sunrise and a cup of coffee. Different moods, same reason we live here.
Derby Day, Dinner Dates & Delicious Discoveries: We kicked off the month celebrating Kentucky Derby Day at 3 Little Birds Corks & More in Newton--great wine, festive vibes, and one of the best charcuterie boards we've had in a while. We also checked out Birkdale Village for a night out that started with wine flights at Foxcroft Wine Co. and ended with a top-tier seafood dinner at Fin & Fino. At the end of the month, we headed west of the lake with a trip to Lincolnton, where we sipped on some craft beer at Brick Tree Brewing (mmm, love their Irish Red). Then, walked to Local Roots for dinner--hands down some of the best food we’ve had this year. Bonus shoutout to their bartenders who were chemistry geniuses behind the bar!

New painting alert! Dana wrapped up “Dockside Daydream,” inspired by a sailboat docked at what we call “The Trifecta”--a dreamy little spot where one cove meets three of our favorite walkable hangouts: North Harbor Club, Lake Norman Wine Cottage, and The Cabin. This piece is all about the slow, sun-soaked moments that make Lake Norman feel like home.

Bay Pointe got a fresh new look! Our little slice of northwest Lake Norman--tucked away in Sherrills Ford--just got a major upgrade with freshly paved roads that are now officially state-maintained. It’s already adding curb appeal and long-term value to our lakefront community, and we’re loving the smoother ride.

At the end of the day (or sunset cruise), May reminded us exactly why we planted roots in the Lake Norman area. This slower-paced, food-filled, wine-sipping, lake-hopping lifestyle is what makes living in Lake Norman so special. From local restaurants and hidden coves to art, trails, and boating--there are always things to do in and around Lake Norman!
